New Onkyo Home Theater Products Compatible With HDMI 1.4a Including 3D Video Formats

Onkyo USA confirmed today that its home theater products currently being rolled out and on sale after March 2010 will be compatible with the “Side-By-Side (Half)” and “Top-and-Bottom” 3D video formats*1. These formats have been added by HDMI Licensing, LLC*2 as mandatory formats for 3D broadcast content in the specification for HDMI version 1.4a.

Onkyo’s announcement applies to the recently announced A/V receiver models TX-SR308, TX-SR508 and TX-SR608, home theater system models HT-S3300, HT-S5300 and HTX-22HDX, as well as all A/V receivers and HTiB products that will be introduced this year.

*1 The added mandatory resolutions are as follows:

  • Side-By-Side (Half): 1080i at 50 Hz or 59.94 Hz/60 Hz
  • Top-and-Bottom: 720p at 50 Hz or 59.94 Hz/60 Hz, 1080p at 23.97 Hz/24 Hz.

*2 HDMI Licensing, LLC is the agent responsible for licensing the HDMI specification. On March 3rd 2010, it released the specification for HDMI version 1.4a, which added requirements regarding 3D broadcast formats. Onkyo confirms the adoption of these new requirements according to the specification released by HDMI Licensing, LLC.
